Mckee has been making art in various media for more than two decades. He began playing in the intersection of computers and art as soon as he turned on his Commodore 64 at the age of five. This obsession continued throughout college where he split his time between printmaking and video art at the University of Texas at Austin. Armed with his B.F.A. in studio art and a growing interest in interactivity, he acquired a Graduate Certificate in video game design from SMU. Mckee then began his professional career and quickly became a team leader on a $9 million game development/research project funded by the National Institutes of Health. He wrote design documentation, proposals, created assets, iterated design ideas, and stayed up way too late tweaking GUI's. In between that he also helped launch Playnormous as the startup’s game designer, lead artist, and music composer.
