In the winter of 2012, the Tall Ship ELISSA was put into dry dock in Texas City to makes repairs to her hull that were sustained in Hurricane Ike. Being in dry dock afforded the perfect opportunity for SmartGeoMetrics to conduct a 3D historical documentation of the as-is conditions of the hull while at the same time working with the Galveston Historical Foundation to explore ways to use this data in the creation of educational resources. Plans are now in place to document all spaces in the ship to allow for virtual access via on-shore kiosks as well as through the Internet.
